Koala bought the van eight years ago. Over the years, he equipped it according to his needs, but now that the European road trip project is getting more and more precise, we decide to bring some modifications to the rear part of the van to create more storage, to add a roof rack, and to have it certified as a motor home if we have time.
In June, we started putting down the benches in order to lower one and adapt the other to add dry toilets inside. We took the opportunity to have a heater installed that works on fuel (we will need it in winter!).
We also disassembled the bed because it also had to be lowered.
In July, we disassembled the kitchen in order to round the corners and varnish it. We took the opportunity to paint one half of the ceiling and the inside of the right side. We installed the new brackets for the bed which will also be based on the storage furniture from a Swedish brand whose name we will keep secret.
At the end of the month, we disassembled the large closet to install the clean water filler hatch and finished painting the inside. We also spent numerous hours to continue the toilet (we have not used it yet, but this piece of furniture has already made us feel like shit!)
In August, Koala manufactured a chest for the spare wheel and another for the gas bottle, both located under the bed. Cerise worked on the new shelves and the library. Above the heater we installed a floor that will support the solid oak table and we began to replace the veneer of the vans’ doors.
At the end of the month, a good surprise was waiting for us in the mailbox: the so long waited for document "barré rouge" which is absolutely necessary to have the van certify as a motor home. After more than two months of waiting, and less than two months before departure, it was more than time!
In September, we finished the hallway closet and the one above the bed. We also finished the electric, gas and water parts, tested and approved (after a few issues).
We altered the bed supports for more solidity and we cut the roof rack to be able to open the skylights. There is only the veneering of the doors to be finished and a few brush strokes to give, and we shall be ready for departure.
